Our Values

Top quality coaching, teaching integrity, inclusion and community

From surf coaching to yoga, we promote activities in an environment based on authenticity, respect and awareness. Our goal is to share practices that aim at personal flourishing, fun and mind-body wellbeing.

We pass down the result of a decade of personal practice and dedication, research and study. We deeply respect the cultural aspects of surfing and yoga, as well as the unicity of the human body. Our goal is to spread this awareness, and share a respectful and mindful attitude. We wish to make these activities as welcoming as possible for anyone, creating an environment that is inclusive and safe.

We always keep in mind that every human being is unique and free: we cherish and honor diversity, while making learning a collective experience.

Our Story

Hi, we are Carolina e Daniele, NALU: Mind Body Surf’ founders and owners.
Our story begins in 2019 in Fuerteventura, when we met during a surf session. Back then, Daniele was the head coach of one of the biggest surf school of the island, and Carolina was a freelance diversity & inclusion policies consultant, but teaching yoga had been her second job for quite a few years, and she was guest teaching in a surf camp.

In 2022 we decided that we wanted to create something together and we started dreaming big: we wanted to open a surf school and yoga studio in Fuerteventura based on the core values we shared and our decade of teaching and coaching experience. But we wanted to go beyond that: we desired to create a cultural and educational center, where all people and bodies could feel safe and welcome. Carolina is a sexuality educator and lifetime human rights activist, so this aspect could not be left behind.

While expanding, we didn’t want to compromise on the integrity of teaching, and first and foremost we wanted to spread awareness and cultural respect for both surf and yoga, two disciplines that are too often mistreated. Carolina’s background in cultural studies, yoga, equity & inclusion policies and Daniele’s expertise in surf coaching and the deep knowledge of the island of Fuerteventura are the backbone of this project that has now come true.
In February 2023, NALU: Mind Body Surf was born in Fuerteventura, and we could not feel more grateful. We can’t wait to welcome you to our home and share our passion with you.

Why Nalu: Mind Body Surf?

Nalu means ‘wave’ in Hawaiian language, and this naming choice is an homage to the roots of surf culture. Wave for us means also ‘energy’, which is what better describes our approach to yoga and any embodiment practice. Our focus is on delivering highly personalized and top quality surf courses, thoughtful yoga classes and educational workshops, working with very small groups and addressing every aspect of your experience and practice: mind, body and ocean.

The concept of mindful embodiment is the core of our teaching methodology: our mission is to make you more aware of what your body can do, how it moves, develop new skills so you can improve, and learn to pay attention to how you feel in it. But – most importantly – we want you to enjoy it. We believe that movement, as way to enjoy the body, is therefore a human right. We meet you where you are at: every human has its wonderful way to inhabit the body and express through movement and we deeply honor this uniqueness.
